Harry S Truman spent enough time in Key West, FL, that the place where he stayed (on the former Navy base) is now an attraction called the Little White House, filled with World War II artifacts and Truman memorabilia. Truman’s piano that he played while on base is still there and is used for special events. Part of US Highway 1, the Overseas Highway, is named Truman Avenue.

Truman enjoyed playing Chopin, so James L. King III has created a waltz in Chopin-esque style. It is on the easy side of intermediate, and a wonderful minor-key bittersweet waltz with lots of rubato. It is a work everyone will enjoy.

Key: E minor

Mood: sentimental and bittersweet

Pedagogy: rubato, phrasing, staccato
