Description
Tom Lehrer (b. 1928) is an American singer-songwriter, satirist, and mathematician whose witty and humorous songs became popular in the 1950s and 1960s. Lehrer’s songs cover a wide range of topics, including politics, science, religion, and war.
Lehrer recorded five albums between 1953 and 1965. His songs have been featured on several television shows, including PBS’s 1970s series The Electric Company.
This Hanukkah piece is one of Lehrer’s works that, fortunately, hasn’t become dated or obsolete. It is lively and fun with a classic Broadway feel to it. The lyrics (included) are wonderfully clever and timeless.
The piano world definitely needs a few more Hanukkah pieces, and this arrangement will be the hit of the season.
