Alley Jam
Get four consumer-grade keyboards and some early to late intermediate players and you’ll have a full band with this amazing sophisticated mixed-level minor blues piece!
Alijam Music’s third anniversary is kicked off with this amazing keyboard quartet that will get students thinking outside the box! One of the keyboard parts is the drums, so there’s a challenge already to mimic a drummer with sampled drumset sounds.
While the piece is written for a soloist using the sound of a trumpet with a Harmon mute inserted, other musicians are free to join in and solo over this minor key blues.
The piano part is written for a late intermediate player, and can be played on a digital piano or acoustic piano along with the other keyboards.
Even better, the piece’s name is a homonym of the company that created it (and now you know how to pronounce it!)
Key: F minor
Mood: cool, creative, collected.
Pedagogy: ensemble playing, blues scales, instrument-like phrasing, walking bass lines, contemporary jazz chord voicings, “stop time,” D.S. al Coda.
