Description
This mixed level duet (primo is elementary, secondo is intermediate) gives students their first possible exposure to the medieval modes that were the forerunners of our modern scales and tonality. Students hear the differences from the major key as they play each mode in succession. The primo part is encouraged to write in the mood or feeling they sense for each mode.
This piece works as an easy-to-prepare emergency recital piece when the teacher performs the secondo. Engraved only in full score format.
Key: C Major, D Dorian, E Phrygian, F Lydian, G Mixolydian, A Aeolian, B Locrian
Mood: varies depending on mode
Pedagogy: modes, transpositions, Middle C position playing
Colleen Branson –
A great unevenly levelled duet for an elementary & intermediate pair of learners. It’s like a set of variations on Yankee Doodle in all the various modesl (I really enjoy listening to it too, unlike the compositions in some other “modal learning” compositions.)
Thanks!
