Description
Sousa’s magnum opus was The Stars and Stripes Forever. It was one of several tunes that, during the 1930s, were proposed to be the national anthem of the United States of America. James L. King III’s intermediate arrangement stays traditional and true to the standard march form, with all three musical motives present. Students will get practice with 1st and 2nd endings, key changes, and a few challenging fingering measures. It’s auditorium-ready for any patriotic event.
Key: F major/Bb major
Mood: happy, patriotic, proud
Pedagogy: 1st and 2nd endings, dynamics, rapid finger changes on one note, key changes, scale and broken chord fingerings.
