Description
Leon René, using the pseudonym Jimmie Thomas, composed this piece in 1958. Bobby Day had the first hit with it that same year, and in 1972, Michael Jackson performed a cover of this tune. Both times, the song reached number 2 on Billboard’s Top 100 chart.
James L. King III’s intermediate arrangement of this piece walks a fine line between absolute faithfulness to the original and simplifying rhythms to make the piece easier to read. Students will work on the classic rock and roll walking bass patterns (three of them are present in this arrangement), and lyrics and chords are given in case students want to try their hand at their own arrangement or play a solo, or perform this piece in a band with others.
