Description
This piece was commissioned by the First Baptist Church of Aiken, SC, to celebrate the 20-plus years of service from their music director, James Bennett. Longtime friend and fellow Furman University graduate Amy Mizell Smith composed the melody and wrote the lyrics, and James L. King III created the choral arrangement and piano accompaniment. The premiere performance was given on January 21, 2018 at FBC Aiken.
Both lyrical and dramatic, this piece is a substantial and exceptional sacred anthem based upon James 1:17, “Every good gift and every perfect gift comes from above.”
Solos are marked as alto, but any vocal part can sing the solo (transposing octaves as necessary).
The piano part is designed for intermediate to late intermediate performers, and is accessible for most church musicians.
This piece is available only as a digital studio license. Directors have the freedom to make and replace as many single-user licensed copies as needed for their choir.
