Description
Inspired by the works of Alexander Tcherepnin and Robert Starer, James L. King III’s latest release is a rhythmic thriller: the 3+3+3+3+2+2 motif gives this fast 4/4 piece a mixed meter feel. Late intermediate students will be challenged with changing key centers, quartal and quintal harmonies, and intense dynamic contrasts. It’s a contemporary winner, suitable for festivals, competitions and recitals.
Key: A minor (with lots of dissonance)
Mood: frantic, manic, on the edge of losing control
Pedagogy: quartal and quintal harmonies, 3+3+3+3+2+2 rhythm, drastic changes in tempo feels and dynamics
