Description

“Flagler’s Folly” was one of the names for Henry Flagler’s Florida East Coast Railroad extension to Key West that operated from 1912 through 1935. The Great Labor Day Hurricane of 1935 damaged the railroad tracks and the extension ceased operations. The bridges that survived became part of the Overseas Highway, US Highway 1. Flagler’s Folly Rag by James L. King III is an irresistible late-elementary ragtime piece that pays tribute to this time in Florida Keys history.
